How Well Does Your IEP Measure Up? Quality Indicators for Effective Service Delivery
Published in Paperback by Starfish Specialty Press (February, 2002)
Authors: Diane Twachtman-Cullen, Jennifer Twachtman-Reilly, and David L., Ed.D. Holmes
Average review score:

The best!!
It realy outlines step by step what an IEP should focus on and say from the first page to the goals and measures. It really was a good book to have along side knowing the laws and rights that other books focus on- it helps you understand how to truly make and IEP individual for your child (very ASD focused). Good for parents and administrators.

A fantastic IEP resource!
This is the best book I have seen yet relating to IEPs for children with autism. The authors focus heavily on creating measurable goals and objectives...something I have not found in other IEP books I have read. I highly recommend this book for any parent of a child with ASD who has an upcoming IEP.

I've Got to Talk to Somebody, God
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Bantam Books (September, 1982)
Author: Marjorie Holmes

A Wonderful Book
I first found this book (an earlier edition)on my mother-in-law's nightstand after she died, and loved reading it. I have since rediscovered it and have already ordered 11 copies to read and give to my friends. I'm ordering another 5 to give to more friends.

The book has a wonderful way of helping you look at everyday events, and see the blessings in everything. It reminds us that we can always go to God - whether the need is great or small, or just to praise him for our blessings.

This book was a comfort to me after the loss of mother.
I lost my dearest friend, my mother, in 1966. She died suddenly and I was totally grief-stricken. I found I was unable to grieve in the proper way.
At the time of the funeral, my Pastor's wife gave me this book for comfort. Little did she know how she helped me.

The section entitled, "The New Dimension" became the prayers I prayed both for me and my mother.
When I read "The Message", I smiled through my tears, It was as if she knew my mother and had been in her house! She wrote such wonderful memories.
The second paragraph reminded me that my mother too, was ready to go Home, just as if she was ready to go to church on Sunday.
"The Lesson of Loss" reminded me that there were those who were ready to comfort me if I would let them. My grief became easier
to bear and my tears started me on the healing process.
"Be Still and Know" helped me realize that my mother was healed now and no longer suffering.
And "The New Dimension of Love" thrilled me in knowing that I would see mother again in heaven.

I am now a Pastor's wife and I have tried to find this book to give to several of our congregation who have suffered loss.
I triumphed over my grief with the simple prayers and passages in this book. I want to share it with anyone who has suffered a loss, especially of a mother.
Thank you, Marjorie Holmes, for giving me strength.

In Flanders Fields/the Eyes of Mr. Leyton (Audio Cassette)
Published in Audio Cassette by Simon & Schuster (Audio) (December, 1990)
Authors: Anthony Boucher and Denis Green
Average review score:

Enjoyable Fare
These two radio shows expose us not only to the great Sherlock Holmes but to English culture.

Masterful, timeless work by Basil Rathbone & Nigel Bruce
This radio series, which aired in the 1940's, is still as fresh as the day Boucher and Green borrowed Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's pen and decided to write some "further" adventures of the great man. Their stories are based on incidents suggested in the original Doyle tales and are brought to life in splendid fashion by the consumate radio and screen duet of Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. The sound effects are superior, the mood is at times dark, often humourous and always mysterious and entertaining.

Intoxicated by the Lynx
Published in Paperback by M R BEY (30 March, 1998)

Average review score:

EXCELLENT BOOK - A Reader's Delight!!!
Intoxicated by the Lynx is about Mystical Journeys, Relationships, and Finding One's True Self. An Excellent Tale!

"...a masterpiece about friends, forgiveness, and the unknown..." MR BEY -Long Island

"...so impressive that I told everyone at school I knew to purchase the book..." student from Cornell University

"....everyone will find Holmes' book inspiration and exciting..." D.C. Critic

"...I love the style and way the author intertwined and developed the story..." Lynda -Amherst

"Only you can take the next step. You must surrender if you desire to evolve. You must become intoxicated by the lynx." With that exhoration, Nari regressed to age three and soon stood beside a honey-brown man with jet-black hair and amber eyes. "Trust me sister. All is well." In this novel, Holmes follows the lives of friends and lovers from Buffalo's East side, all thirty-somethings, or bearly, as they discover the true self. Twin sisters reunite and escape to a special place in the mountains where radiance and meditative songs let the soul "enter into a place that has only offered peace and comfort." All is not mystical. On the earthly plain, roommates jealously guard their men, who zealously pursue the princessess, Holmes occasionally uses graphic language to tether the metaphysical. But Stephanie shows her sister Candy the wonders of special, the zone of waves that wash childhood memories through jaded cells. "I will focus my energy on my center to assit you. You will see." The Lynx held a key. "Your fears will stalk you as long as you feed them. You must learn the source of your fears or it will consume you." The men consider Richard Pryor's philosophy of male selfishness. But each individual grows in the light of discovery. Exploration, agony and affection have unraveled the mysteries of life." -the Book Reader: America's Most Independent of New Books

Jonathan's Wife
Published in Paperback by Avon (April, 1996)
Author: Dee Holmes
Average review score:

ONE NIGHT READ!!
Picked up a copy of another Dee Holmes' books in a used bookstore. Absolutely 'devoured' it, so decided to try to obtain this book!! Took awhile, but it was well worth the effort. What a great, moving story!! I started reading it late in the day and finished it before going to bed..would have read til the wee hours of the morning, if needed!! The story line was wonderful and the characters also. Had tears in my eyes at the end of the book!! Would recommend this to anyone who loves a 'great love story'!!

Moving!
This was such a moving book. The characters were so strong. At first you felt sorry for Jonathan, but then he turned into such a whiner and complainer. His wife stood by him although I think I probably would have left the creep

Legends; Outstanding Quarter Horse Stallions and Mares
Wonderfull History of the breeding of Foundation Mares & Stallions of the AMerican Quarter Horse. I would not be without all 4 volumes in this series. I refer to them when considering a new horse purchase to research bloodlines for Temperment, type, usability and many other factors.

Legends:Outstanding Quarter Horse Stallions and Mares
This is and excellent book in a series of four (so far) about sires and dams of significance in the Quarter Horse Breed. I learned about the horses from birth to death, successes and failures and the people in their lives. A pedigree is provided, and links are made from ancestors and offspring. I found it an excellent reference tool and enjoyed reading it. Another well written book from Western Horseman.

Listen to Me Good: The Life Story of an Alabama Midwife (Women & Health (Columbus, Ohio).)
Published in Paperback by Ohio State University Press (July, 1996)
Authors: Margaret Charles Smith and Linda Janet Holmes
Average review score:

A VERY INTERESTING BOOK
Once I started reading this book, I could hardly put it down. I was impressed by Margaret Charles Smith's honest way of telling her extremely interesting story. She is a courageous person and devoted her life to helping mothers; most of them so poor, that they couldn't have afforded to give birth in a hospital. But given the choice, surely they would've chosen her, anyway, as she cared so lovingly for the mothers and their babies, in a way hardly possible in a hospital. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about midwives and births. There is also a lot that can be learned from it about the history of midwivery in the U.S.

Birthing the way it used to be
I loved the raw honesty of Margaret Charles Smith's story. She tells about catching babies in a time when birth was not considered a medical crisis. As one of the last granny midwives, Margaret has much to tell us about how African-American midwifery was stamped out in particular, and how hospital birth gradually became the norm in this country. I devoured this book in a matter of hours, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the history of birth in the United States.

Living the Science of Mind
Published in Paperback by DeVorss & Company (January, 1991)
Authors: Ernest Holmes and Arthur Vergara
Average review score:

Practical Guide to Mr. Holmes' Ideas
Ernest Holmes' message differed somewhat from other founders of new churches. He did not claim to have the "sole and exclusive" revelation of the One Truth about matters spiritual. He did not assert that he had a "new" revelation, or that he had founded a movement freed from the influences of others. Instead, he asserted that his movement was a synthesis of ideas from a variety of faiths and traditions, and that his ideas would be improved over time.

Living the Science of Mind sets out Mr. Holmes' new-thought-derived ideas in a very readable, straightforward book. This book is not laden with endless jargon, nor does it have that "self help book for the soul" feel that some popular religion books can have. Instead, it tries in intelligent but accessible language to explain Science of Mind beliefs, and to illustrate how those beliefs might be applied in everyday thought.

New thought is built in large measure on positive thinking and the belief, to a great or lesser extent, that spiritual practice can lead to changes in the physicial universe. Mr. Holmes explains in some detail how he conceives this works in everyday life. This is not intended as a complex defense of his faith, and the reader from a different tradition will see many questions in the explanations which have not been fully resolved. Still, this is that rare work of religious material which is both practical and filled with ideas. Some other new thought works seem more like sales pieces than books of faith. Living the Science of Mind is instead a useful guide to a faith, which does not require the suspension of disbelief to enjoy. I don't find myself a "new thought" practitioner, but I think the book is both interesting and useful. Ernest Holmes' thinking has had a bigger influence in our vision of what is the "American Dream" than his Church of Religious Science's impact has been. This is a good guide to understand where he came from and what it means in everyday terms.

Practioner in training
This is an excellent book for anyone wanting to learn about Science of Mind. Dr. Holmes essays are a concise, easily read, coverage of Religious Science. The essays cover all aspects of Dr. Holmes philosophy, from what is Science of mind to the history and development of SOM. He explains clearly what he means by "change your mind, change your life" and how to accomplish this. He covers almost any question that might arise: Religion, Spirituality, New Thought, Religious Science p(28-106); God p(107-150); Man p(151-167); Law p(196-223); Your Word p(266-276); Happiness & Fulfillment p(393-434). This is a book that you can read in selected topics and discover who you are, how powerful you are, and can go back to reread time and again while getting new insights each time. The use of the Law to manifest your highest and best good is spelled out - and it works.

this is quality reading
This series of readers is excellent for beginning readers to advanced. It is useful in a variety of ways - copywork, dictation, elocution and oration, reading development and comprehension, etc... I homeschool and find these books refreshing: I do not have to worry about the content of what they read. They encounter a wide range of authors, prose style, and, best of all, solid principles for living. My children enjoy taking the time for these classics.

McGuffeys Series (teachers edition)
I ordered this series in May of last year and have yet to receive it. Please tell me what your intentions are. Thank you, Arlyn Boone

Was great,I felt I was walking with Jesus
This was a most inspiring novel. Everyone should read the accounts of Jesus, I felt like I was with him. I could not put the book down. Now I want to read "The Three from Galilee".

QUITE POSSIBLY THE GREATEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ
This gets a rating above 10- Marjorie Holmes has taken the life of Jesus, and those around Him, and made Him real. She takes biblical truths and weaves them with storytelling, breaking your heart with each word, as you get to know Jesus all over again, in a new way. This third book, following Two from Galilee & Three from Galilee brings it all home to your heart. This book and the others before it, MUST BE READ! What a beautiful tribute to Him to make His life real in a way no one else has. You must read these!
